Library

Our library holds more than 20,000 volumes for both recreational reading and research purposes. Our full-time librarian and staff work with kindergarten through 5th grade classes on a weekly basis and 6th through 8th grades on specific projects and upon teacher request. The library is a place where books are deeply valued and cherished. The love of reading is fostered through the promotion of quality children’s literature and storytelling, while we also embrace the best technology available. Students are encouraged and taught to be responsible users of media and to rely on information literacy tools in the procurement and use of all appropriate resources.

Reading Programs

At Mark Day School we celebrate reading and literacy in many ways:

Our Rock Star Readers Book Club is a casual and fun way to share the reading experience through one common book. We meet every six weeks and all 4th and 5th graders are welcome.

Starting in 3rd grade, students can strive to earn the Bizjack Reading Award by completing a variety of extracurricular reading assignments and projects. They receive special recognition from Mr. Harvey at the Bizjack Reading Award assembly at the end of the year. Students who participate consecutively through 8th grade get a special award and gift from the library.

The annual book exchange is a beloved event organized by parent volunteers. Books, games, and DVDs are collected within our community, and for one night in February, all are invited to come and fill bags with free, new-to-you stuff. All that and a delicious potluck dinner, too, make this an excellent community builder around books.

Our book fair, "Fall into Books" is held each year conveniently close to the holidays, so visitors can buy books for themselves and shop for gifts at the same time. Like the book swap, it is completely volunteer run and a percentage of sales goes directly to Mark Day School.
