Benefoot Soccer Shoe Drive Benefiting Kliptown Youth Program (KYP) - March 21-24

Benefoot, a nonprofit organization started by 8th grader Caitlin Evers that strives to give underprivileged soccer players the proper equipment they need to work toward their dreams, will be holding its first shoe drive on March 21-24. We will be collecting used soccer cleats to give to our friends at KYP. KYP has hundreds of soccer players in their program, yet most kids do not have the proper shoes to play. Subsequently, these children go onto the field in worn out sneakers or even barefoot. Bins will be placed by the front office and at the parking lot side of the Middle Division hallway. Help support our friends at KYP! Please contact Caitlin Evers (Caitlin@benefit.org) with any questions, or visit www.benefoot.org.

Support Rock and Jazz and Mark Day!

Thanks to the work of our dedicated music faculty and music support teacher Brian Wilkerson, over the past several years we have built new and enhanced opportunities for students to participate in rock and jazz bands through our music program. To support these bands and student musicians, we're looking to add some equipment. If you have a lightly used but high-quality guitar amplifier (such as 12-inch speaker Fender Blues Junior) or a decent-quality electric guitar (like a Fender Standard Stratocaster) that is gathering dust in your attic or garage, please consider putting it into the hands of a budding musician at Mark Day! Please contact Wendy Levine if you'd like to make a donation.

With Gratitude: Passport Day to South African Partnerships

Thank you to our teachers and our almost 50 Passport Day parent volunteers, including those who took a leading role: Meghan Kurtzig and Jennifer Dutro (lunch co-chairs), Lori Butler and Johanna LaFleur (recycled art), Beth Silver, Sarita Patel, Vicki Peet, Liz Silloway, and Katy Evans (letter writing), Carter Brooks (storytelling), Melissa Hereford (volunteer coordinator), Richard Navarette, Lilianna Parker, and Bryan Wilkerson (drumming), Thando Bezana and Kim Danforth (gumboot dancing). We would especially like to thank Jenny Getz and Lynn West for sharing their knowledge and passion for the Girls Scholarship Program with Upper Division students. We extend a HUGE thank you to Thando Bezana for teaching our community how to bring our whole selves to performances and for sharing so much with us about his home and culture. Click here to view the opening assembly video put together by alum Ben Strassman.
