Community Leaders Breakfast

This annual event brings together an array of people from independent schools and educational nonprofits to join in discussion around a compelling and timely topic. Mark Day School has hosted conversations on global school-to-school partnerships, institutional diversity, and teaching tolerance.

Since 2003, we have welcomed the following presenters, among others:

  • Gene Batiste, Director of Equity and Justice for the National Association of Independent Schools
  • Debra Chasnoff, filmmaker and founder of Women’s Educational Media
  • Milton Reynolds, program director for Facing History and Ourselves
  • JuanCarlos Arauz, consultant specializing in the educational issues of immigrant youth
  • Jubilee Tembe, principal of Mark Day School's partner, eSibonisweni Primary School, in eSicabazini, South Africa
  • Molly Blank, director of the documentaries Testing Hope: Grade 12 in the New South Africa and Where Do I Stand?
  • George Scharffenberger, Katia Peterson, Thulani Madondo: The Intersection of SEL, Global Education, and Partnerships
  • Deborah H. Gruenfeld, Moghadam Family Professor of Leadership and Organizational Behavior, Graduate School of Business, Stanford University
  • Ashanti Branch, founder and executive director of Ever Forward Club, and Simone Marean, co-founder and -director of Girls Leadership Institute
Exciting partnerships and joint projects, including the long-term reciprocal partnership between Mark Day School and the Canal Alliance, have been born of these conversations.
