Click here for the interactive article. Carina is a writer and translator in New York and San Juan, P.R. Her first book, "The Other Island," is forthcoming from Riverhead. In 2020, her essay "The Ladder Up," originally published in Virginia Quarterly Review, was a National Magazine Award finalist. Her last essay for the magazine was a Letter of Recommendation for literary translation as an accessible and radical practice. ![]() It was great watching Ariel Saland '05 on Jeopardy! ![]() Leah Kelly '09 is a first year volunteer firefighter with the Napa County Fire Department Station 15, and she is the first woman volunteer in 100 years! Leah and Chris Morisoli, an 18-year volunteer firefighter, were recently featured on the Today Show. Click here to view the segment. Welcome, Andrea! ![]() Spencer Petras '14 made his first start at quarterback as Iowa opened its season in the Big Ten Conference on Saturday — a 24-20 road loss at Purdue on Saturday. Petras, a former Marin Catholic High standout, completed 22 of his 39 passes for 265 yards and scored the first touchdown of his Iowa career on a 1-yard run in the second quarter to level the score at 7-7. ![]() Beck Lorsch '17, a senior at Marin Academy, and Branson senior Amrit Baveja, created MarinTrace, new contact tracing app designed to allow high schools to have a safer return to campus after many months of distance learning. The app allows high schoolers to self-report any COVID-19 symptoms or positive test results in a secure and private manner. The app will be beta tested at Branson, and expects to launch in December or January. "I was very impressed with Amrit's and Beck's dedication, hard work, thoughtfulness and technical skills," said Dr. Lisa Santora, Marin deputy public health officer, after the two seniors presented MarinTrace to her a few weeks ago. "We are fortunate to have students working together with us to get students back into the classroom." ![]() What does it take for faculty and students to engage fully in both in-person and distance learning this year?
