2nd Grade Social Studies

Second graders start the year virtually visiting each continent. Themes around their “travels” include interconnectedness, conservation, cultures and traditions, and similarities and differences. Students are equipped with mock passports and boarding passes for each “flight” to a new country. Throughout the year, students dive more deeply into four countries—Kenya, Japan, India and Costa Rica. They explore topics like how one person can make a difference in the world, food, oceans and the rainforest, and animals. Nutrition, including comparing meals and food staples, are also incorporated into their understanding of other countries.
