5th Grade Mathematics

Students complete the final year of the Bridges in Mathematics program. They apply critical thinking and problem-solving strategies and are guided to approach challenging math learning with a growth mindset. They develop fluency with all operations with whole numbers, develop and use procedures to find quotients and products in multi-digit problems, and develop fluency with prime numbers, fractions, decimals, composite numbers, divisibility rules, factors, and multiples. Throughout, students are challenged to collaborate with peers, find multiple solutions to problems, and communicate their thinking visually, verbally, and with mathematical expressions. Differentiated extensions and support are part of the classroom culture, and opportunities for students to take on challenges as well as seek clarification are readily available at all times.
