5th Grade Physical Education
Physical education is a core subject at Mark Day and students have PE every day in every grade. PE serves as an integral part of the overall education process contributing to the total growth and development of each child. The program focuses on running, fitness activities, healthy eating and personal care, team sports and games, and pushing oneself to reach increasingly strong levels of health and fitness. Students learn and are expected to apply skills with fair play, mutual encouragement, and community respect through friendly competition. A child who is well educated physically is more likely to become a healthy adult who is motivated to maintain a healthy lifestyle. We aim to instill a lifelong love of sports, fitness, activity, and movement, and help students see that sustained effort over time results in positive change and success. Students begin every class with a daily run and fitness exercises to help them improve their running and fitness. Activity units include volleyball, pickleball, team handball, soccer, Pillo Polo, track & field, basketball, ultimate frisbee, kickball, dance, and flag football. 5th graders are eligible to participate in some after school sports including cross-country in the fall, and track and field in the spring.
